KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team will look to improve upon its two-game win streak to open up the regular season when it travels west to open up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action with two games this weekend.
The Golden Bears (2-0 overall) take on California (Pa.) University (2-1) on Saturday, Nov. 18 and face Slippery Rock University (2-0) on Sunday, Nov. 19. Both tips are set for 3 p.m.
KU, the defending PSAC East Division champions, enters the weekend having won two non-conference games last week at Keystone Arena. In the season opener, KU scored a program-record 135 points in defeating Penn State Schuylkill 135-80 last Saturday, Nov. 11. This past Wednesday, Nov. 15, KU held on for an 88-81 victory over University of the Sciences.
Kutztown opened its regular season 2-0 for the third straight season.
The Maroon and Gold are third in Division II in scoring offense (111.5 points per game), first in assists per game (28.5) and second in field-goal percentage (60.6%). The 31-point margin of victory is first in the PSAC.
Redshirt-junior
Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) leads KU in scoring at 24.0 ppg, and has 915 career points. He tallied a career-high 34 points in the season-opening win vs. Penn State.
Junior
Dan Cuevas (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) is right behind Lee at 21.5 ppg. Cuevas enjoyed a career-high night in the last game against the Sciences, scoring 24 points.
Senior
Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) is tied for fourth in Division II in assists per game with 9.5. He is averaging 13.5 ppg and broke his previous program-record for assists in a game (14) when he dished out 16 against Penn State. His 484 career assists is the most in program history.
Two other Golden Bears are averaging double-figures in scoring, with
Ricky Hicks (Coatesville, Pa./Polytech) and
Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) tallying 13.0 ppg and 10.5 ppg respectively. Williams is also cleaning up 11.0 rebounds per game, which is third in the PSAC.
After winning its first two games to begin the season, the Vulcans lost their last game vs. Ashland (OH) 97-87 last Wednesday, Nov. 17. They are led by Jahmere Howze, who is averaging 22.7 ppg and 11.3 rpg.
The Rock enter having won their first two games of the season. Micah Till leads the team with 15 ppg and 7.5 rpg.
