KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team erased a 12-point halftime deficit to beat second place West Chester 72-70 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on Wednesday evening at Keystone Arena

A jumper by Sierra Taylor (Williamstown, N.J./Camden Catholic) allowed KU (4-10 PSAC, 7-15) to break a tie with nine seconds left in the game, and the Golden Bears would force two West Chester (8-6, 8-10) misses in the final seconds to move into a three-way tie for fifth place in the PSAC East.

Taylor led Kutztown with 15 points and a game-high six assists. Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Philadelphia U.)) and Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) each contributed 13 points, with Watson also grabbing a game-high eight rebounds and Heck dishing out a season-high four assists.

Sparked by 10 points apiece from both Taylor Thames (Colmar, Pa./North Penn) and Gabbi Wright (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham), the KU bench outscored the West Chester Bench 22-8.

Notably, Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) made history by making two 3-pointers to move into second place in program history with 174 for her career.

For West Chester, all 25 of Alexis Anderson's game-high 25 points came in the first half. Porscha Speller added 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

In a game that featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes with Kutztown shooting 27-of-62 (43.5%) from the field, compared to West Chester's 26-of-60 (43.3%), turnovers played a major key. The Maroon and Gold only turned the ball over nine times while forcing 17 Golden Ram turnovers.

With Kutztown leading 37-35 midway through the second quarter, West Chester closed the half on a 18-4 run over the final 5:23, capped by 10 straight points, to take a 53-41 advantage into the break.

KU scored the first eight points of the second half, and would close to within three with 5:21 to go in the third quarter, but West Chester held off the push and would hold onto its lead, 66-60, entering the fourth.

The Golden Rams did not score for the first 4:27 of the final quarter though, allowing Kutztown to come back and tie it at the 6:09 mark on a Watson jumper. The score would stay within two points the remainder of the game with three ties and two final lead changes. The last point prior to Taylor's jumper came on a West Chester free throw with 2:50 remaining to tie the score at 70.

KU hits the road for its next PSAC matchup against division-leading Shippensburg on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m.
