Match Schedule
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team will return to action for the first time in exactly two months on Friday, Jan. 20, when it hosts the ninth annual KU Invitational from Jan. 20-22, at Hiester Lanes in Reading.
Kutztown is part of a 28-team field, 17 of whom are nationally-ranked, making the KU Invite the biggest NCAA invite of the weekend. Friday's baker matches begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday's traditional matches begin at 9:30 a.m., and Sunday's best-of-seven bracket-style matches begin at 8:30 a.m.
The Golden Bears (19-27), who received votes in the latest national poll released in late-November, will compete in 12 matches over the first two days of the invitational, including seven nationally-ranked programs. So far this season, KU is 6-14 against nationally-ranked teams and 13-13 against non-ranked teams.
KU last competed at the UMES Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Del, on Nov. 18-20.
Felicia Trievel (Reading, Pa./Wilson) led the team that weekend with a 195.8 traditional average, while
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) had a team-best 19.167 frame average and a filled-frame percentage of .8194.
In last year's revised scheduling due to a snow storm that passed through Berks County, McKendree won the KU Invite for the first time. Delaware State's Chelsea Merklinger was named the Tournament MVP.
This weekend begins a stretch of four straight weekends of competition for the Golden Bears. After the KU Invite, they look ahead to the Red Flash Invitational, hosted by Saint Francis (PA), in Altoona, Pa. on Jan. 27-29.
