KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team will look for its fourth win in a row on Tuesday, Sept. 13, as it matches up with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival West Chester University at home on North Campus Field at 3 p.m.
KU heads into the contest coming off an impressive 3-0 victory over Seton Hill on Saturday.
Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) netted her 20th career goal in the win, while freshman
Madison McLelland (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) and senior
Katie Jaxheimer (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) also scored.
West Chester comes into the matchup as the hottest team in the PSAC, starting off the season with a 4-0 record. It has three consecutive shutouts, including dominating 5-0 decisions over Pitt-Johnstown and Gannon. The Golden Rams are tied atop the PSAC standings with East Stroudsburg, while KU is tied for sixth with Indiana (Pa.) and Shippensburg.
The Golden Bears and Golden Rams are 3-3 against each other in their last six contests dating back to 2013. In their lone matchup a season ago, West Chester blanked KU by a score of 1-0.
Kutztown will have to slow down West Chester's high-powered offense if it hopes to pull off the upset on Tuesday. The Golden Rams lead the PSAC and are tied for 15th in Division II with 3.50 goals per game. West Chester also sits atop the PSAC in scoring margin (3.25), shot attempts (96), points per game (10.0), assists per game (3.0) and goals allowed (1).
The Golden Bears rank fifth in the conference in goals per game (1.75), third in goals allowed (3) and second in shots-on-goal (41).
McLelland leads KU in both goals (2) and points (4) in the team's first four games, while Curry leads the team with 12 shot attempts and 10 shots-on-goal.
Freshmen
Maddie Mohr (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) and
Kristina Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) share the team-lead with one assist. Mohr is also second on the team with nine shot attempts.
Both of KU's goalkeepers have performed well thus far. Freshman
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) ranks third in the PSAC in goals-against-average (GAA) (.500) and save percentage (.889), while sophomore
Imani Taylor (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) ranks eighth in GAA (1.00) and has four total saves.
Both goalies have started two games each in the early part of the season for the Golden Bears. Bracken has started in the last two games for KU, posting a shutout and eight saves in the two victories.
The Golden Rams are led by senior Scarlett Walsh, and sophomores Kaitlyn McFadden and Linzi Wolfe. Walsh leads the team with three goals (second in PSAC) and two assists (second), while McFadden and Wolfe each have scored two goals (sixth).
Alex Srolis has started in goal in each of West Chester's four wins, posting a 4-0 record, five saves and a .273 GAA (second).
