Curry’s 20th Career Goal Highlights Shutout at Seton Hill

Video Highlights

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) became the tenth player in program history to score 20 career goals as the Kutztown University women's soccer team turned in a dominating performance to win its third consecutive contest on Saturday afternoon at Seton Hill.

Holding onto a 1-0 advantage thanks to freshman Madison McLelland (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South)'s second goal in as many games in the 24th minute, it took Kutztown (3-1, 2-1 PSAC) until the 84th minute to finally cement the victory. Set up by freshman Maddie Mohr (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area)'s first career collegiate assist on a through ball, the historic goal was Curry's first of her senior campaign and was the fifth KU shot on net in a span of just over 12 minutes. Prior to that stretch, neither team tested either goalie for a span of over 40 minutes of gameplay.

Fellow senior Katie Jaxheimer (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) put an exclamation point on the performance with her first goal of 2016 just 4:01 from the final whistle, giving freshman Kristina Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) her first career point with an assist.

Freshman Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) was called upon just twice in net and made both stops for her first career collegiate shutout.

Bracken was not needed often as Kutztown held Seton Hill (1-2, 1-2-1 PSAC) to just four shots throughout the 90 minutes, including one in the final 52 minutes of gameplay, which came with 30 seconds remaining. The Golden Bears outshout the Griffins 16-4 for the game with an 8-1 edge in the second half.

Kutztown came out with its foot on the pedal, registering the first seven shots of the afternoon, four of which were on goal, as well as the first five corners. The heavy pressure finally paid off when McLelland notched her unassisted score.

Just over two minutes later Seton Hill forced Bracken into her first save of the contest, the Griffins first shot of the afternoon. SHU did well to get back into the game by outshooting KU 3-1 over the final 20 minutes and taking the only corner in that span, but aside from that Bracken stop it was Curry who had the only attempt on net entering the break.

Kutztown's next game comes on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against the preseason PSAC favorite and current unbeaten West Chester. Please stay tuned to KUBears.com for an announcement on the location for the contest.
