MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team fell to a relentless Millersville University at Wednesday's away game by a final score of 16-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
The Marauders (7-7, 4-4 PSAC), who scored just 42 seconds into play, dominated the first half. Three more players scored for the team, causing Millersville to lead 10-1 going into halftime.
Despite the Golden Bears (6-7, 2-6) winning 13-of-20 draw controls for the game, they still could not keep up with the Marauders' drive to cage. Six Kutztown players shot at goal, but it was not until
Lauren Huggins (Media, Pa./Penncrest) with 4:30 remaining in the half that a goal was netted for KU.
Within the first four minutes of play in the second half, the Golden Bears attacked the net five times, but all were blocked by Millersville goalie Bryana Weston-Wyatt.
The second half continued to be paced by Millersville, who caused 11-of-18 Kutztown turnovers. Huggins scored a second goal for the team and
Madison Carlucci (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) scored the final Kutztown goal.
Courtney O'Neill (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) led the team with five groundballs, followed by
Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) with four. O'Neill also caused three turnovers.
Jen Bergey (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) made one save in the first half before Cox came in and finished with seven. The team went 5-of-10 on clear attempts.
Kutztown remains on the road to play at nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg University (11-2) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.
