The Golden Bears (3-14) opened with a win in doubles play by Shadimon Navarro (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and Jessica Caples (McSherrystown, Pa./New Oxford), 8-4. It won three combined games in the other two flights as its disadvantage in doubles play ended up making the difference.
