KUTZTOWN, Pa. -
Matt Martoccio (Kintnersville, Pa./Council Rock South (Lock Haven)) of the Kutztown University wrestling team and
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) of the field hockey team were recently selected as the 2016 KU Male and Female Senior Athletes of the Year during Kutztown's annual All-Sports Banquet on Tuesday at the O'Pake Field House.
Â
Martoccio becomes the third consecutive KU wrestler to earn the award, while Behm is only the second field hockey player to win it on the female side. Evan Yenolevich and
Ziad Haddad (Orefield, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (North Carolina)) took home the honors in 2014 and 2015, respectively, while
Erin Reynolds was named Female Senior Athlete of the Year in 2014.
Â
A two-time All-American, Martoccio, finished his impressive Golden Bear career with a sixth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA National Championships. He earned All-America status for the second consecutive season, just the fifth wrestler in KU history to do so.
Â
Martoccio helped lead the Golden Bears to a 12-5 overall record this season, including a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Super Region 1 Championships. He led the team with 28 wins for the second straight season, sixth-most in team history. Martoccio is a two-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honoree and won the Super Region 1 title at 157 pounds this season.
Â
Behm had one of the most prolific offensive seasons in KU history in 2015 for the field hockey team as she led the squad to 12-7 record and its first PSAC Championship berth since the 2009 season.
Â
The Kutztown native was named to the All-America First Team for the second time in her career and became a three-time All-PSAC honoree. Behm led the PSAC with 53 points (second all-time) and 1.16 goals per game (second in Division II) and was second with 22 goals (second all-time).
Â
Behm capped off her stellar four-year career with 56 goals and 129 points, both ranking her third all-time in school history. She holds the school-record with 10 consecutive games with a goal and leaves her mark on the KU field hockey program as on one of the best players in team history.
