Results KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's tennis team braved the elements of high winds on campus on Tuesday afternoon to earn its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division win of the year with a 7-2 triumph over Shippensburg University at the Keystone Courts.
The Golden Bears swept singles competition to seal its victory over the Raiders.
Alyssa Konas (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) won her first match at No. 1 singles of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win on Tuesday.
Jessica Burns (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) won 6-1, 6-0 at the second flight and
Yasmeen Malik (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to highlight the top three rounds of singles play.
Kara Urland (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) pulled out a tight win at No. 4 singles at 6-3, 6-4,
Vicki Norman (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and
Jessica Caples (McSherrystown, Pa./New Oxford) won her first singles match of the year with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
Shippensburg earned its two wins in doubles play at the first and third flights. Burns and
Shadimon Navarro (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) teamed up for the first time of the year and earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Kutztown hopes to keep its momentum rolling this weekend with a road match at Millersville University on Saturday, April 2 beginning at 2 p.m.
