Women's Lacrosse Falls Behind Early, Can't Overcome in Non-Conference Loss at Home

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Rams of Philadelphia University in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon, 11-6, at Keystone Field.
 
Philadelphia found itself up 3-1 after the first 4:49 and finished the first half with a 5-2 advantage. Kutztown came out swinging to start the second half with two goals early to make it 5-4. Unfortunately, Philadelphia quickly answered with a 3-0 run to give itself the 8-4 lead with 19:49 to play.
 
Kutztown continued to fight, but was only able to find a single goal with 11:22 left to play.
 
Down 8-5, the Golden Bears surrendered three more scores to the Rams, but KU's Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) scored with only three seconds remaining to close the scoring at 11-6.
 
Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) continues to thrive in her sophomore campaign as she had a team-high three goals and two assists, her sixth hat-trick of the season.
 
Madison Carlucci (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley), Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) rounded out the offense for the Golden Bears as they each contributed one goal apiece. Smith and Carlucci also pitched in one assist each.
 
Carlucci tied for the team-high in groundballs with four and caused turnovers with two.
 
Courtney O'Neill (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) came away with three draw controls, two caused turnovers and two groundballs.
 
Haley Romoser (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) and Shana Hayes (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) each added four groundballs as well.
 
Abby Cox (York, Pa./West York) got the start at goal and played a complete game. She came away with seven saves.
 
Philadelphia found most of its production from Liz Mower, who finished with four goals.  Isabella DiGnazio and Kathyrn Avanzato also pitched in two goals each.
 
Kutztown will remain at home on Friday, April 1, against Edinboro University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. The game is slated to get started at 2 p.m.
