16 Field Hockey Players Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – One day after the Kutztown University field hockey team was recognized by having the top team GPA in Division II, 16 individual Golden Bears were honored on Tuesday as members of the 2015 ZAG / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Academic Squad.
 
The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.
 
Golden Bears named to the National Academic Squad were Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown), Analyse Gaspich (Palmyra, Pa./Lower Dauphin), Marissa Greiner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Stacey Hart (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale), Morgan Herrick (Hanover, Pa./Hanover), Heidi Jackman (Newton, N.J./Kittatanny Regional), Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh), Haley Layton (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township (Clemson)), Liz Mikitish (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area), Rita Muro (Barcelona, Spain/ES International School), Jamie Rafter (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), Julia Snyder (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area), Madison Stewart (New Castle, Del./William Penn), Jess Strohecker (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry), Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) and Madison Wampler (York, Pa./West York Area).
 
Kutztown earned the NFHCA's Team Award on Monday with the highest GPA among Division II programs at 3.54. It is the 12th consecutive year that KU has been recognized with a Team Award. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieved a minimum Team GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.
 
The 2015 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Scholars of Distinction will be released on Wednesday, March 23.
 
In 2015, Kutztown field hockey returned to the playoffs and hosted its first-ever home playoff game. KU finished with a 12-7 record, 7-3 in the PSAC, and improved its win total for the third straight year. KU had an eight-game winning streak and had five student-athletes earn All-PSAC honors and three celebrate All-America distinction.
