KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team got back in the win column with a down-to-the-wire 77-75 victory against East Stroudsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears (9-14, 6-13 PSAC East) took the lead with 49 seconds left to play in the game as Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) knocked down a jumper to put Kutztown up 75-73.

Kutztown trailed for most of the afternoon, but took the lead at the 1:39 mark in the third quarter for its first advantage since a 3-2 lead 1:36 into the game. The Golden Bears held onto the lead until East Stroudsburg tied it up with just 1:19 left to play.

Lee then hit the game-winning basket just 32 seconds later, followed by junior Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) knocking down two late free-throw attempts to put the game out of reach. KU's defense held strong to preserve the victory.

The win ended the Golden Bears' five-game losing streak, and keeps them alive in the fight for the sixth and final playoff spot in the PSAC East.

The Golden Bears currently sit at seventh, 1.5 games behind Lock Haven with three games left to play. The top six teams in the division advance to the postseason.

Watson led the scoring for Kutztown, finishing with 21 points, nine rebounds and a new career-high five blocks.

Three other Golden Bears reached double-digits; Lee (18), Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) (16) and Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area) (13). Lee added eight assists.

Altomare also tied a career-high with eight rebounds and with her three 3-pointers on the day moved into seventh all-time in Kutztown history for career 3-pointers made with 113. It was the 23rd straight game in which Altomare has hit at least one 3-pointer.

Kutztown shot 42 percent from the field in the win and held the Warriors to 40 percent shooting. The Golden Bears outscored East Stroudsburg in the paint, 36-28, and had 15 points off turnovers to 10 for the Warriors.

Allison Howard recorded a double-double (25 points, 11 rebounds) to lead the way for East Stroudsburg (11-12, 9-10). Rebecca Rutkowski chipped in 18 points.

Kutztown takes to the road on Monday, Feb. 15, in a late-season PSAC matchup against Cheyney.
