KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The No. 14 Kutztown University men's basketball team begins its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division title defense this weekend when it welcomes California (PA) and Slippery Rock to Keystone Arena on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20. Both tips are scheduled for 3 p.m. and will follow the conclusion of the women's games, which begin at 1 p.m. on both days. With two wins, the Golden Bears would start 4-0 in a season for the first time 2009-10.
 
KU has begun its campaign with two comfortable victories over Penn State Schuylkill (110-71) and the University of the Sciences (83-48). As a result, the Maroon and Gold are in the top-four of the PSAC in 14 different categories, including leading the league in turnovers per game (11.5) and assist/turnover ratio (1.65) and ranking second in points per game (96.5), scoring margin (+37.5), opponents' field goal percentage (33.1), 3-point percentage (46.8), 3-pointers made per game (11.0), turnover margin (+10.5), steals per game (12.0) and blocks per game (4.0).
 
Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) leads Kutztown in scoring average (16.0) and is three points shy of moving into the top-10 of program history in points. He is also two rebounds shy of moving into the top-five as well as five free throws short of the top-10 in the program annals. He also leads the PSAC in steals per game (3.5).
 
Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) is also moving his way up the program's record book as he is one 3-pointer shy of moving into sole possession of seventh place in the program annals. Connolly leads the team and ranks third in the PSAC in 3-pointers made per game (3.5) and is fifth in 3-point percentage (63.6) and fourth in field goal percentage (61.1).He is second on the team, averaging 15.0 points per game.
 
Also averaging 15.0 points per contest is Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington), who also leads the team in rebounds per game (7.5) and minutes per game (26.0). His 85.7 percent (6-7) 3-point percentage is atop the PSAC, while his 3.0 3-pointers made per game and 1.0 blocks per game rank fifth and seventh, respectively.
 
Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) is the fourth Golden Bear averaging double figures at 11.5 points per contest. He is six assists shy of moving into seventh place in program history. His 6.0 assist/turnover ratio and 58.8 percent field goal percentage are second and fifth in the PSAC, respectively.
 
Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) is third in the PSAC in assists per game (6.0) and is also averaging 9.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
 
After falling to Virginia State 53-78 in its season-opener, California has won two in a row as it most recently defeated Davis & Elkins 100-92 in overtime on Monday, Nov. 14. The lone category in which the Vulcans rank in the top-seven of the PSAC is turnovers per game (13.0).
 
Ramon Creighton is the lone Vulcan averaging double-figures as he is third in the PSAC with an average of 23.7 points per game. Daniel Sapp and Tony Richardson each average a team-high 6.3 rebounds, while Rashawn Brown dishes out a team-high 3.0 assists per contest.
 
Slippery Rock has also won two in a row after dropping its season-opener. The Rock fell 53-71 to No. 7 Wheeling Jesuit before bouncing back with victories over Shepherd (57-55) and Ohio University (Eastern) (94-61).
 
Slippery Rock holds opponents to a PSAC-low 29.0 rebounds per game, which results in the Rock being fourth in the league with a +12.0 rebound margin. SRU is also fifth in opponents' points per game (62.3) and blocks per game (2.7).
 
Featuring a balanced scoring attack in which seven players average at least 6.0 points, Slippery Rock's leading scorer (Khyree Wooten) ranks 34th in the PSAC at 13.3 points per contest. George Chase grabs a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game, and Jordan Marrow and Medric Green each average a team-best 3.0 assists per contest.
