Moyer Ties Career-High in Kills, Conti Reaches 1,000 Digs in Setback against Millersville

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team pulled out a victory in the second set, but was unable to close out Millersville University in a 3-1 loss Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup inside of Keystone Arena.

Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) was sensational for the Golden Bears, as she had a match-high 27 kills in four sets.  It tied Moyer's career-high for kills in a match. Notably, Moyer had the most kills in the second set (12), when Kutztown was able to close out Millersville by a score of 25-18.

In the first set, the Golden Bears were unable to top the Marauders as they fell, 25-20.  From the first point, Millersville captured and maintained the lead.

Jumping to the third set, the Maroon and Gold grinded out a three-point lead with a score of 11-8 midway through the set. Unfortunately, Kutztown was unable to hold onto the lead as Millersville clawed back and went on to finish the set with a 9-4 run to bring on a final score of 25-19.

It seemed that the third set had taken a toll on Kutztown as Millersville would go on to win the fourth set in decisive fashion, ending the match with a 25-12 route.

Senior Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) finished the match with 42 assists and 13 digs. The 13 digs put Conti at a career total of 1,009, placing her 10th in program history. She now needs 17 more digs to surpass Sarah Knaub for the ninth place spot.

Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) had the second-most kills in the match with nine. She has continued to improve with her form and has been hitting with substantially power.

Taylor Brown (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) notched a match-high four blocks in the contest, while Zandria Zielinski (York, Pa./York Catholic) and Niki Carpenter (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion Area) pulled out two apiece.

Millersville was paced by a balanced attack as it featured three players with double-digit kills. This was done by Erin Harman (16), Kelsi Ceriani (15) and Brittany Ford (12). Grace Dawson was the leader in both assists (44) and digs (15) for her team.

Kutztown will have three days off before its fifth-straight home game, when it faces off against PSAC opponent East Stroudsburg University. The match is set to start on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
