Field Hockey Bested by West Chester Saturday Night

VIDEO: Wozniak's Breakaway Goal

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team led 1-0 early on, but saw West Chester University score four unanswered and turn in one of its best games of the season, as KU fell 4-1 Saturday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Andre Reed Stadium.

In the 14th minute, Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) stole the ball from a West Chester defender nearly 40 yards away from goal. She dribbled on a breakaway, worked her way around the goalkeeper and scored her third goal of the year.

From there, West Chester rattled off four-in-a-row, including three in the second half. KU was tied 1-1 at halftime, but was outshot by West Chester in the second half and 15-7 overall on-goal to pull away.

Despite allowing four goals, Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) stopped multiple point-blank shot attempts by West Chester. Two of West Chester's goals were off rebounds on initial Hope saves, while the other two were off set plays off corners. Hope finished with 11 saves.

Kutztown aims to return to the win column against nationally-ranked Bloomsburg University on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. The game will be telecast live on KUTV.
