KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team went toe-to-toe with seventh-ranked Bloomsburg University Tuesday night. KU outshot Bloomsburg by three, had six more corners, but couldn't get one past the Huskies keeper in a 2-0 setback in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Andre Reed Stadium.
The Golden Bears (7-5, 2-3 PSAC) fell behind early with two Bloomsburg goals in the first 30 minutes. They missed an opportunity with a saved penalty stroke, and went into halftime down 2-0 despite having equal shots (8) and penalty corners (8).
Kutztown cranked up the pressure in the second half with a 10-7 advantage in shots and 8-2 in corners. Bloomsburg had one defensive save, but goalkeeper Lindsay Cassel didn't allow anything past in her eighth shutout of the year.
Morgan Aldinger (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) stepped up twice on the KU back line with two defensive saves.
Kutztown looks to get back on track with a non-conference, in-region match on Thursday, Oct. 13, at home against Limestone College. Game time at Andre Reed Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
