Corinne Manela (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) began her senior campaign with an impressive showing, helping Kutztown University secure a second-place finish in the 5K Dutchmen Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College.
Manela placed second with a time of 18:14, which was within five seconds of the winning time by Kelsey Patrick of Lebanon Valley. Both runners finished more than 30 seconds ahead of the third place runner.
Stephanie Bresadola (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) ran well in her collegiate debut, placing seventh (19:32). Kutztown's third and fourth-best finishers were also freshmen.
Amanda Ferraro (Howell, N.J./Howell) finished 11th with a time of 19:58 and
Alexis Dongvort (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) placed 15th (20:11). Junior
Kimberly Katzgrau (Oak Ridge, N.J./Pope John XXIII) rounded out the top five for the Golden Bears with an 18th place finish with a time of 20:27.
Olivia Dettore (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) finished closely behind Katzgrau in 20th place (20:30), followed by
Shannon McChesney (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) in 25th (20:40) and
Lauren Rothstein (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) in 28th (20:46).
Julie Stratton (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) placed 30th (20:51) and
Toni Ritrovato (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) finished 46th (21:46).
Next up for the Golden Bears is the annual DII/DIII Challenge hosted by Kutztown. The race will take place Saturday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. on North Campus.
