#25 Women’s Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw at Charleston

CHARLESTOWN, W. Va. – Senior Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute on Saturday, as the 25th-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team tied the University of Charleston, 1-1, in a non-conference match from the Fields at Trace Park.

Kutztown (1-0-1) edged Charleston (1-0-1) in shots, 11-10, and corners, 5-4.

The game's first goal was scored in the 20th minute by Isabella Jaffin of the Golden Eagles.

Teams battled for possession in the midfield in the second half before Malanga was able to capitalize on a free kick from just outside the box for the game-tying goal at the 81:11 mark. The goal was Malanga's 17th of her career, tying her with Chrissy Jack for ninth all-time in program history. She is three shy of moving into a tie for eighth with Kim Kelty and Chelsea Bressler.

Freshman Alyssa Ryan (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon) registered five shots (four on goal), while sophomore goalkeeper Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) turned away six shots on the afternoon.

The Golden Bears return to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 9 for a 4 p.m. match at Lock Haven.
