ERIE, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team defeated Mercyhurst University on Saturday evening by a score of 2-1 at Tullio Field.
Kutztown (5-3, 2-1 PSAC) got on the board against Mercyhurst (3-5, 1-1 PSAC) with a goal from senior forward
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) just 11:23 into the first half.
The Golden Bears widened the lead to two on a second-half goal from Behm at the 54:21 mark. It was her 12th goal of the season, which leads all of Division II.
Madison Stewart (New Castle, Del./William Penn) picked up the assist on the goal.
Behm's four points on Saturday put her over the 100-point mark for her career. She becomes the eighth player in Kutztown history to accumulate 100 career points. She has 102 points, which ranks 6th all-time at KU.Mercyhurst cut the lead to one on a goal from Jessica Brandon at the 59:19 mark in the second half. It was assisted by Emily Burns and put the Lakers back within striking distance, but Kutztown finished strong to capture the victory.
Senior goalkeeper
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) had another strong game for Kutztown, recording six saves in the victory. She now has 52 saves in eight games this season.
KU was outshot by Mercyhurst 10-7, but led the Lakers in corners by a 12-5 margin, which proved to be a big advantage in the game.
The Golden Bears next game will be against Mercy College on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium.
