#6 Field Hockey Shuts Out Mercy, 3-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The No. 6 Kutztown University field hockey team used two second-half goals on Wednesday night to secure a 3-0 victory over non-conference opponent Mercy College on a cool and rainy night at Andre Reed Stadium.

Kutztown (6-3) controlled possession for the majority of the game, limiting Mercy (4-4) to just one shot while the Golden Bears racked up 19.

In the 27th minute, senior Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) opened the scoring for KU, pushing her Division II lead in goals to 13. She has now scored a goal in four-straight contests. Behm tied the school record last year after collecting a goal in six-consecutive games.

The Golden Bears scored twice in the first ten minutes of the second half to take control of the game. Rayann Fink (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) scored on a strong shot after a pass from Morgan Aldinger (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) at 41:00. Courtney Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) then collected KU's third goal at 44:36 on a seeing-eye shot that found the left side of the cage from the center of the circle.

The Maroon and Gold held an 18-0 advantage in penalty corners. It was the first time since Nov. 13, 2010 that KU held an opponent without a penalty corner. The last time was also against Mercy, a game in which the Golden Bears won 6-0 and held a 30-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Kutztown goalkeepers combined for a shutout as senior Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) played the first half and Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) took to the cage for the second half and made KU's lone save.

Up next, the Golden Bears are back in action at Andre Reed Stadium against non-conference opponent Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. KU will return to conference play on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. against Slippery Rock.
