CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets on Friday to Indiana (Pa.) and California (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover held on the campus of California University of Pennsylvania. Set scores were 23-25, 15-25, 20-25 against IUP and 16-25, 12-25, 14-25 against California (Pa.).
Kutztown (2-10, 0-2 PSAC) played well in its opening set against IUP (9-2, 2-0 PSAC), as the Golden Bears led by as many as six. The Crimson Hawks trailed 20-14 before mounting a comeback to take the set and ultimately sweep KU.
Senior
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Golden Bears with 10 kills and eight blocks. Freshman
Shannon Restrepo (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) filled up the stat sheet with six kills, 12 assists, seven digs, and the team's lone service ace.
In the second match of the day, California (Pa.) (4-8, 2-0 PSAC) jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first set and did not look back.
Stringer recorded a team-high eight kills and three blocks.
Tori Wakelee (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East),
Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area), and Restrepo each recorded three kills. Wakelee added 10 digs and Restrepo recorded seven assists.
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) tallied a team-high 13 digs, while
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) totaled eight assists.
Madisyn Kleinfelter (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) contributed two service aces.
The Golden Bears return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 26 with more PSAC crossover play. KU squares off with Clarion at 12:30 p.m. and Seton Hill at 6 p.m. in Greensburg, Pa.
