Gabriele Nets Hat Trick in Home Loss to Millersville

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Freshman Sarah Gabriele recorded her second hat trick of the season from a cold Keystone Field on Wednesday afternoon in the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team's 14-5 setback to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Millersville University.
 
Kutztown (1-10, 0-7 PSAC) and Millersville (5-6, 2-4) duked out a rather even first half of play, but the Marauders stepped into the second period with a 5-3 advantage.
 
The Marauders built momentum early on the in the second stanza to take a 9-3 lead. A Sabrina Fusco-led five-goal stretch for MU in the final 11 minutes deflated the Golden Bears, securing a win for the away team.
 
Gabriele showed offensive vison and confidence on her three goals, finding holes in the Millersville defense and scoring all three unassisted. It is the second game this year the rookie has tallied three-plus goals, and she currently leads the squad with 22 on the season.
 
Lauren Huggins tied the game at 1-1 early on with a goal off a pass from Cara Lord. Jillian Spencer closed out the game's scoring with an unassisted strike in the final two minutes.
 
Courtney O'Neill tied a season-high with seven groundball pickups and led the Golden Bears with three caused turnovers. Gabriele won three battles off the draw, while Madison Carlucci and goalkeeper Abby Cox secured three groundballs each.
 
Cox came away with seven saves between the pipes for Kutztown. Millersville's goalie Shannon Davis finished with four stops.
 
The Marauders were paced by the three-headed attack of Renee Landis (four goals, two assists), Fusco (four goals), and Hannah Vogel (three goals, four assists). Taylor Davis chipped in two goals and an assist off the bench.
 
The Golden Bears travel to Indiana (PA) this Saturday, April 11 for a 1 p.m. PSAC matchup against the Crimson Hawks.
