Box Scores: Match 1 | Match 2 KUTZTOWN, Pa. –
Caitlin Davies and
Caitlyn Walker have shined in other sports outside of tennis throughout their high school and college careers, but their paths brought them to the of the Kutztown University women's tennis team this spring. Their great athleticism has made them both assets for the KU tennis programs, and the duo was at its finest on Thursday as they each won their first career matches in a pair of team victories over Cheyney University.
The Golden Bears (4-7, 1-3) won the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) over the Wolves (0-9, 0-3), 5-2, and the second match 5-3, played as a non-conference match.
Kutztown has been plagued with the injury-bug since it returned from spring break, so it had to surrender one singles and doubles match and overcome the 2-0 deficit to start.
Davies, a senior in her final semester at KU, had thrived in the pool in her four years as a swimmer at Kutztown. Time has certainly aided in Davies' progression over the last month as she won both of her singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Davies also teamed with
Jessica Caples in two doubles victories.
Walker, a freshman, came to KU with a strong softball background but has found her way to the tennis courts this spring. Like Davies, Walker picked up her first victories of the season on Thursday with matching 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Vicki Norman allowed just one game in her two wins at No. 1 singles, and Caples went 1-0 in singles action.
The only competed match KU dropped was at No. 1 doubles in the second match against Cheyney.
Kutztown returns to action on Tuesday, April 7 against Bloomsburg University. It marks Kutztown's final home match of the season that is set to begin at 2 p.m.
