KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Jessica Burns and Jessica Caples both won singles matches on Friday afternoon to highlight the Kutztown University women's tennis team's 7-2 defeat at the hands of Millersville University in KU's home-opener this spring in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match.
 
Burns, competing in her first match for the Golden Bears (2-5, 0-2 PSAC East) since the 2013 fall semester, showed the ability to overcome adversity in her singles match. At the third-flight, Burns won the opening set 6-4, but was trailing 5-0 in the second set. She turned around to only allow one more game-point with a 7-6 set win.
 
Caples played at the fourth flight of singles and also overcame adversity in her victory. She failed to win a game in her 6-0 defeat in the first set, but she came back to win 7-5 and 10-6 for her individual win.
 
Millersville (2-6, 1-0) swept three of the remaining four singles matches, as Kutztown's Caitlin Davies won five games at the fifth flight.
 
Kutztown returns to action on Sunday, March 29 in PSAC East action at West Chester University beginning at 1 p.m.
