HTML Box Score CLERMONT, Flor. – The Kutztown University softball team scored all five of its runs in the first two innings to lead it to a 5-0 shutout victory over Slippery Rock University on Thursday afternoon in Florida.
Savannah Nierintz moved to 7-0 in the circle with her second shutout of the year. She allowed four hits in seven innings with four strikeouts. She holds a 1.17 ERA in 47.2 innings this year with 31 strikeouts and 10 walks.
The Golden Bears (10-3) took advantage of an error by Slippery Rock in the first inning. With a runner on first, KU put two runners on base following an error by the Slippery Rock shortstop. Kutztown's
Colleen Smith took advantage of the extra runner and drove in
Asja Saito from second for a 1-0 lead.
On a lineout back to the pitcher the following at-bat, an eventual error on the pitcher led to KU's second run. A RBI single by
Marissa Linquist gave KU a 3-0 lead through one.
Danielle Sienko drove in a two-run double in the second with two outs to extend the lead to 5-0.
Saito went 2-for-2 with two runs scored for KU at the plate.
Kutztown closes out its spring break trip in Florida on Friday, March 13 against Charleston at 7 p.m.
