ERIE, Pa. – Matt Martoccio (Kintnersville, Pa./Council Rock South (Lock Haven)) and Brandan Clark (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) competed in championship matches against Division I competition at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Mercyhurst University. Despite both wrestlers coming home with runner-up finishes, they were two of three place-winners for the Kutztown University wrestling team that turned in a seventh-place team finish.
 
At 157 pounds, Matt Martoccio (Kintnersville, Pa./Council Rock South (Lock Haven)) won his first three matches by decision. The second-ranked 157-pounder in Division II, Martoccio met Division I Lock Haven's Aaron Mckinney in the championship match, but dropped an 8-3 decision.
 
Martoccio earned All-PSAC honors for the second time in his career with a career-best second-place finish. The returning All-American is 10-2 on the year, 10-0 against Division II competition.
 
Clark posted his best career finish at the PSAC Championships to earn All-PSAC honors for the first time. He won his first three matches by decision and a combined five points that included one-point victories in his second and third matches of the day. He met Division I Edinboro's Vincent Pickett in the final and dropped a 12-0 major decision.
 
Ryan Krecker (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area (Campbell)) won three matches and placed fifth at 165. After dropping his first match of the day, the team captain rallied back for two wins including a 26-second pin. He met UPJ's Tyler Reinhart in the fifth place match and pinned him in 2:32.
 
Julio Arredondo (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) won two matches at 174 at his first conference championship. Both of his losses came against nationally-ranked wrestlers.
 
Other Golden Bears winning matches included Austin Petril (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby (Ursinus)) at 125, Charlie Livingston (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) at 184 and Ryan Appleby (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) at heavyweight.
 
Edinboro won its fifth straight PSAC Championship. Lock Haven finished second, Mercyhurst was the top Division II program in third, Clarion was fourth, Pitt-Johnstown was fifth and Gannon was sixth.
 
Kutztown returns to action after finals week for its home-opener on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. against LIU Post.
