GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University wrestling team was defeated by Seton Hill University on the road on Saturday afternoon, 22-18, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup inside the McKenna Center.
Kutztown (2-3, 0-2 PSAC) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over Seton Hill behind wins by
Austin Petril (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby (Ursinus)) and
Anthony Petril (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby (Ursinus)) at 125 and 133, respectively.
Seton Hill (2-1, 2-1) won the next four matches in a row to take a commanding 18-6 lead with four weights left.
Joe Balboni (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton (Old Dominion)) stepped up at 174 pounds for KU and earned his second consecutive technical fall in a 23-7 win over Lou Maser to cut Seton Hill's lead to 18-11.
Redshirt-sophomore
Collin Schildt (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) followed Balboni with a 5-4 decision at 184 to cut the lead to 18-14. Unfortunately for Kutztown, the Griffins clinched the victory with a win a huge 19-6 victory at 197.
Ryan Appleby (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) finished out the match strong for Kutztown with a 15-6 major decision at 285, but it wasn't enough as KU lost by four.
The Golden Bears return to competition on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at the first day of the Virginia Duals.
