Corinne Manela (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) ended her final season with the Kutztown University women's cross country team on Saturday afternoon with an impressive 15th-place showing at the NCAA Atlantic Regional held at Lock Haven University and the team finished ninth overall out of 23 teams.
Kutztown's ninth place finish was one spot better than last season's 10th place showing. Six of the seven Golden Bears that participated in the race today ran career-best times in the 6K event.
Manela clocked in at a career-best 21:32.7, 15th in the field. It was almost 17 seconds faster than her previous career-best, which was set earlier this season at the Paul Short Invitational. It was the 38th time that a Kutztown runner was awarded with an All-Region honor. It was also Manela's second consecutive All-Region performance (Top-25).
Manela's time marked the third-fastest on LHU's course in school history for a KU runner.
Freshmen
Stephanie Bresadola (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and
Amanda Ferraro (Howell, N.J./Howell) were outstanding for Kutztown in their final race of the season. Bresadola finished in 39th place in 22:29.1, while Ferraro placed 40th in 22:29.5. Both freshmen recorded season-best times and it was the highest finish for a KU freshman since Jenn Clearly placed 34th in 2010.
Redshirt-sophomore
Olivia Dettore (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) placed 53rd in the field in a personal-best time of 22:54.4, while freshman
Alexis Dongvort (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) finished 80th in a career-best time of 23:34.5.
Kimberly Katzgrau (Oak Ridge, N.J./Pope John XXIII) placed 86th in the race in 23:44.9 and freshman
Shannon McChesney (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) finished in 114th in a personal-best time of 24:36.6.
California (Pa.) won the team race with three runners in the top-20. Edinboro placed second and had the individual winner, Ida Narbuvoll. Shippensburg finished third, while East Stroudsburg and Slippery Rock rounded out the top five. Bloomsburg placed sixth, Seton Hill was seventh and Lock Haven finished the race in eighth. Indiana (Pa.) slotted one spot behind KU, in tenth.
Kutztown had a successful 2015 campaign and will look ahead to the 2016 season with high hopes, having all but one runner expected to return to the team.
