JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Despite another strong performance from freshman
Shannon Restrepo (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), the Kutztown University women's volleyball team lost in straight sets on Friday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown inside the Sports Center.
Set scores for the match were 25-14, 25-18 and 25-15, all in favor of Pitt-Johnstown.
Kutztown (8-23, 5-14 PSAC) tried its best to steal a victory from Pitt-Johnstown (25-4, 16-2), but the Mountain Cats secured early leads in all three sets and didn't look back.
Restrepo once again had an impressive all-around performance for Kutztown. She led the team in kills (5), digs (15) and assists (11). It was her 18th match with five or more kills and 14th double-double of the season.
Senior
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Golden Bears in total blocks with six, her 18th match this season with at least five. She is two blocks shy of 400 in her illustrious career. Coming into this match, Stringer ranked first in the PSAC in total blocks and seventh in all of Division Two.
Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) contributed for Kutztown with four kills and two blocks. Junior
Tori Wakelee (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) chipped in with three kills, four digs and two blocks. Freshman
Niki Carpenter (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion Area) recorded three kills and three blocks in the contest.
Senior
Emily Kopinski (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and junior
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) each had eight digs, while
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) contributed with six digs and seven assists.
Brake has 451 digs this season, eighth-best in school history. She needs two digs to move to seventh and 49 to reach 500 in a season, which would put her in the top-five for single-season digs.
Pitt-Johnstown was led by Cambria Wierman with 13 kills, nine digs and four total blocks. Devan Orr had a match-high 19 digs and Allison Mondorff led the Mountain Cats with 19 assists.
