BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team dropped its final exhibition match of the preseason on Sunday afternoon to Division I Lehigh University by a score of 81-51 at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem.
Kutztown led often in the first half against Lehigh. The Golden Bears were tied with the Mountain Hawks after the first quarter and only trailed by four points at the end of the first half. Lehigh pulled away in the second half, but Kutztown showed promise against tough competition.
Junior
Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) scored a team-high 16 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals. She shot 7-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-3 from behind the arc.
Senior
Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) recorded 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) was the third and final Golden Bear in double figures with 10 points.
Kalee Fuegel (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) contributed with four points, a team-best five assists and two steals. Freshman guard
Taylor Thames (Colmar, Pa./North Penn) scored six points.
Sophomore
Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area) led the Golden Bears in rebounds with six, while
Gina Lewis (Atlantic City, N.J./Holy Spirit) and
Mariah Maciejewski (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) each had three.
Kerry Kinek led Lehigh with 21 points and six rebounds. Lexi Martins had 20 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Amina Affini chipped in with 15 points for the Mountain Hawks.
Kutztown begins regular-season play on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup against Cheyney University at home inside Keystone Arena.
