Field Hockey Explodes for Seven Goals in Win Over Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The fifth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team won its sixth game in a row and clinched its first double-digit-win season since 2011 on Saturday with a 7-2 victory over Mansfield University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game at Van Norman Field.

Kutztown (10-3, 5-1 PSAC) put on an offensive display that featured five different goal-scorers and five different players with assists. Its seven goals were the most by KU in a single game since Nov. 16, 2010 (9-3 win over Mansfield).

Senior forward Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) recorded her 18th and 19th goals of the season, equaling her season total from last year, and maintaining her Division-II lead in goals. She also tallied one assist and now has a career-best 44 points this season (third in KU single-season history).

Behm is third in KU history with 53 career goals. She is eight shy of Kelley Healey (2005-08) for second (61 goals). She also moved into fourth all-time at KU with 120 career points.

Madison Wampler (York, Pa./West York Area) recorded her third and fourth goals of the season and added one assist. Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) scored her first goal of the year and tallied two assists.

Julia Snyder (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) and Madison Stewart (New Castle, Del./William Penn) chipped in with one goal apiece, while Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) and Courtney Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) each contributed an assist.

KU scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game with goals from Behm and Wampler. Behm scored her second goal of the day at 33:56 to give the Golden Bears a 3-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, KU outscored the Mountaineers 4-2 to secure the victory.

The Golden Bears held Mansfield (0-12, 0-6) scoreless until 44:59 when Katie Lipski scored on a penalty stroke.

KU held a 19-9 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.

Senior goalkeeper Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) played the first half and made two saves. Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) took to the cage in the second half and collected one save.

Kutztown currently stands in third place in the PSAC. The top six teams earn a playoff berth. The Golden Bears seek their first postseason appearance since 2009.

Three of KU's final four PSAC games are against teams currently in the top four of the conference standings.

The Maroon and Gold travel to West Chester on Tuesday, Oct. 13 to take on the Golden Rams at 4 p.m.
