READING, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team upset two nationally-ranked teams on Sunday in best-of-seven style matches and finished in 14th place to wrap up the 2015 KU Invitational at Hiester Lanes in Reading.
The Golden Bears (35-33), ranked 18th in the country, opened the day with a 4-1 win over 15th-ranked Valparaiso, and overcame a 3-2 deficit to defeat 12th-ranked Sacred Heart 4-3. KU ended its day with a 4-2 loss to 14th-ranked Saint Francis Brooklyn.
Kutztown's
Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was named to the All-Tournament Team. She ranked 10th of 171 competing bowlers in traditional matches and averaged 212.67 pins per game. She had three 200+ games, including a 243 against North Carolina A&T.
Dakota May (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) was second on the team for KU with her average of 186.2 in five games. She had two 200+ games, including a 221 in the opening game against Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Amanda Wilson (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) was 97th in the field at 890 total pins in five games for an average of 178 with a high of 213 against Arkansas State.
Khrystyna Liske (Delta, Pa./Kennard Dale),
Christine Gordon (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) and
Kayla Maselkevich (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) all bowled four traditional games for KU over the weekend. Liske led the trio at an average of 189.75, followed by Gordon at 170.25 and Maselkevich at 169.
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) (151) and
Taylor Strothmann (Maywood, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) (148) competed in one game each.
As a team, Kutztown posted an average of 193.2 in its 19 baker games.
The Golden Bears look to respond next weekend when they travel to Altoona for the Red Flash Invitational beginning on Friday, Jan. 30.
