Curry’s Two-Goal Effort Lifts Kutztown on Non-Conference Road Trip

Box Score

PHILIPPI, WV – Alaina Curry (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) only needed two strikes to score her first two goals of the season Thursday night, as the Kutztown University women's soccer team traveled to West Virginia to secure a 3-0 win over Alderson Broaddus University in a non-conference game.

It took Curry just four minutes to get Kutztown (3-2) on the scoreboard. After Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) had a shot stopped by the Alderson Broaddus (0-3) keeper, Malanga set up Curry for the first goal of the game.

Curry struck again shortly after, this time receiving a dish from Mariah Dimm (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) to put the Golden Bears up 2-0 at the 11:16 mark.

In the 29th minute, Katie Jaxheimer (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) issued a corner kick that the Maroon and Gold couldn't convert. KU kept on the offensive pressure, resulting in Logan Kramer (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor (Arkansas State)) finding the back of the net 30 seconds later for her first of the season.

Kutztown didn't let off the gas pedal in the second half, firing off five more shots in the final 45 minutes while denying the Battlers any chances on goal.

The Golden Bears finished the game with a hefty advantage in the shot column (14-4), but the corner kick battle remained close (5-4).

Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made two saves at goalkeeper for Kutztown and now has two shutouts in five games this season. Tayler Garcia tallied five saves in net for the Battlers.

Kutztown also shut out the Battlers last season, winning by a score of 4-0.

KU will have the weekend off to prepare for an away game against Slippery Rock on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
