READING, Pa. – In the annual non-conference matchup between the Kutztown University and Albright College baseball teams at FirstEnergy Stadium Monday night, the Golden Bears secured a 7-0 victory to wrap up the regular season under the lights at the home of the Reading Fightin Phils.

Kutztown closes out the regular season with a 27-19 record overall and 14-14 in the conference with playoffs starting this week. The Albright Lions finish 13-16-1.

Senior Kyle Stoudt (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) started things off in the first for Kutztown, hitting a single to center field. The ball took a bounce over the centerfielder's head, allowing Stoudt to advance to third on the error. With the next at-bat, Travis Kreitz (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) sent a sacrifice fly out to right, plating Stoudt for the first score of the game.

In the second with Warren Stimpson (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) and Drew DeShong (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle Antrim (Hagerstown CC)) on first and third, Corey Snyder (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) hit a bouncing grounder to the first basemen, allowing Stimpson to make it home.

The KU offense kept it rolling in the third as Stoudt and Kreitz hit consecutive singles to center field with the first two at-bats. After a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Hickey (Mountville, PA/Hempfield) to put both the runners in scoring position, catcher Joe Peters (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown (Delaware Technical CC)) secured a two-RBI single to center field to put the Maroon and Gold up 4-0. Peters made his way to third base, crossing the plate from a DeShong RBI-fielder's choice for the fifth score.

Senior John Dockins (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson (Frederick CC)) led off the bottom of the fourth inning showing off his tremendous speed, hustling to third base cleanly for a triple on a shot out to right center. Unfortunately, his fellow Golden Bears could not bring him home with the next three at-bats.

In the seventh with the bases loaded, Ricky Gorrell (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) singled to right field to bring in Carson Baker (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman (Lackawanna)), immediately followed by Derian Sarlat (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) plating the seventh and final run after a throwing error by the Lions.

Eric Moul (Hanover, PA/South Western) got the start and the win on the mound for the Maroon and Gold, giving up one hit in two innings. KU featured a full rotation of pitchers, giving up only one hit total. Mike Kammerer (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) also threw two innings, recording two strikeouts. Dave King (Tremont, PA/Minersville), Zach Wasson (Pottstown, PA/Boyertown (Montgomery CC)), Matt Matricardi (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin), Nick Fulop (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional), and Pat Flynn (Pottstown, PA/West-Mont Christian Academy) all picked up the remaining five innings on the mound, combining for five strikeouts.

Zach Graham received the loss for the Lions after starting the first 2.1 innings, giving up seven hits and five runs. Albright featured six more pitchers, highlighted by Trey Eberly's three strikeouts.

Kutztown worked the majority of the roster into the lineup, tallying 13 hits. Stoudt was the only Golden Bear to record a multi-hit game.

Coming in as the No. 4 seed from the East, Kutztown will play in the opening round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs this Wednesday at 6:30 from Kelly Automotive Park in Butler, Pa. The Golden Bears will face top-seeded Seton Hill University from the West Division.
