KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University baseball team scored seven runs in the first two innings of Wednesday's doubleheader against Mansfield University, but just one run over the next 12 innings as the team's split a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division games. Kutztown won game one, 7-6, and dropped a 6-1 final in game two at North Campus Field.

Mansfield (13-8, 1-5 PSAC East) struck first against the Golden Bears (13-8, 3-5) with a RBI double in the top of the first inning. Kutztown responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take an early four-run lead.

With the bases loaded and one out, Carson Baker (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman (Lackawanna)) and Brady McNab (Hatboro, PA/Archbishop Wood (Frederick CC)) hit back-to-back RBI singles to give KU its first lead of the game (2-1). Following a strikeout, KU walked in a run and was hit by a pitch to extend the lead to 4-1. John Dockins (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson (Frederick CC)) capped the inning with his first of three hits of the game with an infield RBI single.

Kutztown plated an unearned run in the second inning, but was silenced offensively from there. Mansfield scored two runs in the third and fourth innings to cut the deficit to 7-5 through four, bringing an end to KU pitcher Kyle Stoudt (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights)'s day.

Paul Piromalli (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West (Mercer County CC)) took over on the mound in the fifth inning for Kutztown. A throwing error on a stolen base attempt at third brought the Mountaineers within one in the fifth inning at 7-6. Piromalli settled in and allowed just one base runner in the sixth before handing the ball over to Matt Swarmer (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) for the save. A walk, wild pitch, and stolen base put the game-tying run at third base, but a fly-out ended the game for Swarmer's fourth save of the year.

Mansfield starter Johnathan Earnest was tabbed with the loss after not getting out of the first inning. He was credited with all five KU first-inning runs in 0.2 innings.

Kutztown trailed throughout the entirety of game two. It allowed two runs in the first inning with a two-out single, and allowed Mansfield to score six runs before scoring its lone run in the seventh inning.

Johnny LeClair led the way for Mansfield with a 3-for-3 day and his PSAC-leading seventh home run. He also drove in Mansfield's first four runs of the game. Pitcher Quin Taylor pitched a complete game and allowed six hits with six strikeouts.

KU starter James Rossi (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was credited with the loss with 4.1 innings pitched. He allowed four runs. Ryan Clow (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) pitched a scoreless inning of relief, as Eric Moul (Hanover, PA/South Western) and Dave King (Tremont, PA/Minersville) also appeared without allowing a run.

The Golden Bears stay in the swing of things and host Lincoln University (PA) on Thursday, April 3 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
