Box Score #12 Merychurst 16, Kutztown 5 (HTML Box Score) ERIE, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team commenced a road trip out west on Friday afternoon with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup against 12th-ranked Merychurst University on from Tullio Field. The Lakers outshot the Golden Bears to a 16-5 victory.
Kutztown (3-10, 1-8 PSAC) did make the most of its shot attempts on goal, but Merychurst's (12-2, 8-1 PSAC) high-powered offense led them to a win and a share of the top spot in the PSAC standings.
Jenna Schlagenhauf had a career-day for the home team, starting the game off with a hat-trick in the first seven minutes. The junior finished with seven goals to total 50 on the season, which currently ranks third in the PSAC.
Brielle Dickey (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township),
Krystine Beodeker (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley), and
Morgan Bright (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) all tallied unassisted goals in the first half time to cut the deficit to 8-3 heading into halftime.
In the final 30 minutes,
Kelli Serpi (Toms River, NJ/Manchester Township) connected on a free-position attempt for a goal at the halfway mark and
Taylor Stone (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) closed out the KU scoring with her 13th goal of the season off a dish from
Sarah Holmes (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island).
JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape) recorded 14 saves in the first 51:27 at goalkeeper and
Abby Cox (York, PA/West York) closed out the game. Rebecca Muscella made five saves in net for the Lakers to earn the win.
The Maroon and Gold scored on five of its 11 shot attempts, but the Lakers held the advantage with 35 total shots. MU won the battle off the draw, 13-10.
Kutztown will remain out west for another PSAC contest tomorrow, April 19 for a 3 p.m. matchup with Slippery Rock University.
