SMYRNA, Tenn. – The 11th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team won two matches on Sunday and closed the Music City Classic by winning seven of its final eight matches as the team finished 11th overall in the final regular season weekend of the season.
Since Friday's opening day, the Golden Bears (75-45) moved up 10 places from 21st on Friday to their 11th-place finish on Sunday. Kutztown won best-of-seven matches against North Carolina A&T (4-1) and Sacred Heart (4-3) to close the nationally-ranked tournament that included 19 of the country's top 20 teams.
Kutztown finished with a 7-7 team record and an overall total of 10,029 pins. Senior
Deanna DiRado (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) led Kutztown in Saturday's traditional games and was one of 18 bowlers to average more than 200 pins per game with her team-leading 202.2 average.
The Golden Bears return to action next weekend at the USBC Sectionals in Allentown, Pa. The singles event will be held on Friday, March 14 to give individuals the opportunity to qualify for the individual national championships, while the team events will take place on March 15-16.
