KUTZTOWN, Pa. – A season-high 10 runs scored in the bottom of the fourth gave the Kutztown University baseball team a sizeable lead as they cruised to a 13-1 victory over Bloomfield College in a non-conference matchup from North Campus Field on a chilly Thursday afternoon.

Kutztown (11-6) had a solid all-around offensive performance with nine different players accounting for 12 hits that brought in a season-high 13 runs in a single nine-inning game against the visiting Bloomfield Deacons (2-10).

Up 1-0 going into the fourth, the Golden Bears picked apart Deacon pitcher Paul Chong and took advantage of an early fielding error to mount eight hits and score 10 runs. With the bases loaded, short-stop John Dockins (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson (Frederick CC)) singled out to center field to initiate the scoring momentum. Second basemen Brandon Cholish (Peckville, PA/Valley View (Lackawanna)) plated the next two runs by launching a double into the outfield. Carson Baker (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman (Lackawanna)), Thomas Romano (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), and Ricky Gorrell (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) all fired off RBI singles in the fourth. With a trip through the lineup and Cholish back up to the plate, the junior finished off the offensive run by singling to center and bringing in two more runs to round out a quadruple RBI inning.

The Maroon and Gold tallied its final two runs in the fifth, when Brady McNab (Hatboro, PA/Archbishop Wood (Frederick CC)) hit a sacrifice fly to bring Baker across the plate and Clay Sebesky (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) brought Brandon Hickey (Mountville, PA/Hempfield) home by hitting into a fielder's choice.

The Deacons plated its only run in the sixth off of a walk and two singles.

Cholish, Baker, Romano, and Gorrell all led the Golden Bears with two hits, while Cholish, Baker and Dockins all recorded multiple RBI. Hickey and Cholish were the only players to tally a multiple-base hit with a double a piece.

Kutztown featured six different pitchers in the victory. Corey Snyder (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) is credited the win after giving up one hit and recording a strikeout in the first three innings. Ryan Clow (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) closed out the final inning by striking out two of the last three batters. Matt Matricardi (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and Matt Swarmer (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) also picked up a strikeout.

Bloomfield utilized five pitchers on Thursday, with Chong getting the loss after 11 runs and seven walks.

KU was active on the base path, going 5-for-6 on stolen base attempts. Cholish and Brandon Martinez (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) successfully stole two bases each.

Kutztown will return to conference action with four straight matchups against Mansfield University. MU will host the first doubleheader tomorrow, March 28 at 1 p.m. and the teams will return to North Campus Field for another doubleheader on Saturday, March 29 at 1.pm.
