ALTOONA, Pa. – The 11th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team turned in two impressive performances on Saturday morning on the opening day of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament at Holiday Bowl. Kutztown won both of its matches against nationally-ranked teams and advanced to Sunday morning's semifinals.

The Golden Bears (80-47) also honored two bowlers to the All-NEC team on Saturday. Senior Deanna DiRado (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) was named to the first team, and sophomore Lauren Stamm (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) was named to the second team.

Kutztown is the only undefeated team remaining in the field of six teams. It opened its day with a 4-3 victory over 16th-ranked LIU Brooklyn in the best-of-seven format. It posted scores higher than 200 in each of its four wins in the match to advance to the quarterfinals against fifth-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson.

The second match of the day went even better for the Golden Bears. In a 4-2 victory over the fifth-ranked team in the country, KU averaged an eye-opening 229 pins per game through the six-game match. It dropped the first game despite posting a 256 pin-count, but responded with back-to-back wins to take a 2-1 lead. FDU posted a 258 in game four to tie the match, as KU wrapped up the match by winning the next two games.

Sunday morning's semifinal match of the double elimination tournament will begin at 9:35 a.m. against St. Francis Brooklyn.
