HTML Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team ran into one of the top teams in the region on Wednesday afternoon as it dropped a 73-60 decision at the University of the Sciences at Morgan Arena on New Year's Eve.
The Golden Bears (8-5) had two double-digit scorers.
Tynell Fortune (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West (California (PA))) finished with 12 points, and
Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) scored 11 to extend his double-digit scoring streak to five games, and six of his last seven. Brooks also added a team-high eight rebounds and two blocks.
Howard Sellars (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area (Saint Peter's)) scored eight points,
Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) finished with seven points and five rebounds, and
Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) scored six points with four rebounds and two assists.
Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) led the team with four assists in 12 minutes off the bench.
Sciences senior Garrett Kerr suited up for the final time against the Golden Bears. The Moorestown, N.J. native continued his great success against KU with 31 points and 13 rebounds on Wednesday. It is the third time Kerr has scored more than 30 against Kutztown, and the fourth time he finished with a double-double. For his career, Kerr averaged 30.8 points and 15 rebounds against KU.
Led by Kerr's 20 points and seven rebounds at the break, the Devils (10-3) got out to a healthy halftime lead at 44-28. Both teams shot higher than 50 percent from the field, but the Sciences built their lead off of +6 advantages in offensive rebounds and turnovers in the first half.
The Golden Bears outscored the Devils 32-29 in the second half.
Kutztown closed out its non-conference schedule on Wednesday, and now moves into its final three conference crossover games of the season. KU hosts Edinboro and Mercyhurst at Keystone Arena on Jan. 3-4, respectively, with tipoff set at 3 p.m.
