KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Four Golden Bears scored in double figures to lead the Kutztown University men's basketball team to a 73-71 win over Edinboro University on Saturday in its return to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears (9-5, 6-2 PSAC) not only returned to the win column to start 2015, but they moved back into first place in the PSAC East for the second time this season. East Stroudsburg fell to nationally-ranked Indiana (PA) at home on Saturday to match KU and ESU with 6-2 conference records.

The rivals are slated to meet for the first time on Saturday, Jan. 24 at Keystone Arena.

Tynell Fortune (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West (California (PA))) had one of his best games of the season. His hot hand from outside lifted him to five three-pointers and a team-high 22 points, his highest scoring output since posting back-to-back 20+ point games in November. Fortune made 5-of-6 free throws and ranks second in the PSAC at 88.2 percent.

Fortune ranks sixth in the PSAC in scoring at 15.2 per game.

Kutztown controlled the majority of Saturday's contest against the Fighting Scots (6-6, 3-5) and led for the final 26:10. It led by as many as nine late in the first half, and worked its way to a game-high 12-point lead with 6:19 to play.

Edinboro never wavered though and continued to extend the game by forcing late turnovers and cashing in late three-pointers. After trailing by 10 with 1:00 to play, it scored 11 of the final 13 points in the final minute. KU always maintained a multi-possession lead down the stretch until Edinboro's final three with 0.7 seconds left.

As a team, Kutztown made a season-high nine three-pointers, its most since Jan. 23, 2013 at Cheyney. KU shot an effective 9-for-15 from beyond the arc, a significant improvement from when these teams last met in 2013, when KU shot 32 three-pointers in an overtime game on the road.

The front line of KU of Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and Anthony Selby (Jersey City, N.J./Williamstown (Burlington County CC)) combined for 14 rebounds and helped the Golden Bears to a season-high 12 offensive rebounds. Johnson scored 12 points with six rebounds, and Selby posted his first double-digit scoring performance since Dec. 6 with 10 points and a season-high eight rebounds.

Howard Sellars (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area (Saint Peter's)) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points and a team-high four assists. Kutztown held an impressive 17/10 assist/turnover ratio and shot 46.2 percent from the field. Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) also posted a team-high four assists.

Edinboro's Henri Wade-Chatman opened the game on fire with 17 points in the first 13:22. However, the Golden Bears' defense began to dig down and limited Wade-Chatman to just six points in the final 26:38 for a game-high 23 points.

Jaymon Mason (16), Sheldon Brogdon (13) and Tommy Scales (11) all finished in double figures in scoring for Edinboro, as Scales notched a double-double with 12 rebounds.

The Golden Bears are back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 4 at home against Mercyhurst University at 3 p.m. The Lakers (9-4, 6-2) are currently second in the PSAC West, and like Kutztown, held a seven-game winning streak earlier this season.
