Women’s Bowling Picks up Two Wins Sunday to Finish 11th at UMES Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. – The 13th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team won two of its three best-of-seven baker matches on Sunday to wrap up the three-day UMES Hawks Classic in 11th place, hosted by University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
The Golden Bears (27-19) started off slow with a 4-0 shutout loss at the hands of nationally-ranked Saint Francis Brooklyn, but bounced back with two, 4-1 victories to end the tournament. Kutztown first took down Adelphi before triumphing in a revenge rematch against Saint Francis Brooklyn.
 
Kutztown finished the tournament with an 8-7 record to rank 11th out of 18 competing teams.
 
A trio of juniors led the Golden Bears on Sunday. Kayla Maselkevich (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) posted a team-high 21.3 average over 28 frames. Lauren Stamm (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) recorded a 20.7 frame-average, followed by Taylor Strothmann (Maywood, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) with an even 20 average.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Vanderbilt University 4-1 to take the tournament title for the third time in its history. Sam Houston State defeated UMES by a 4-1 final to take third place.
 
Nicollete Sarin of FDU bowled the highest individual total over five games, while teammate Liat Vizenfeld scored the highest game of the tournament with a 254.
 
The Maroon and Gold return to action on Dec. 6-7 with the second NEC Meet of the season in Elmwood Park, N.J.
