Strong Second Half Lifts Field Hockey to 4-1 Road Victory

Kutztown 4, Mercy 1 (HTML Box Score)

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Madison Wampler (York, Pa./West York Area) scored her first two career goals as part of a three-goal second half for the Kutztown University field hockey team in a 4-1 road victory against Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Mavericks Field.

Following a 1-1 tie at halftime, the Golden Bears (4-4) rattled off three goals in less than six minutes to take complete momentum and control of Wednesday's game in New York State against the Mavericks (0-8). Despite not scoring, Julia Snyder (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) played a vital role in the game-winning and insurance goal with two assists in the second half.

In the 51st minute, Snyder tallied her first career assist on Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown)'s team-leading 10th goal of the season, a career-high. Snyder also set up Wampler for her first career goal as Wampler tipped in a Snyder pass for a 3-1 lead in the 55th minute. Just more than a minute later, Wampler scored again to open the game to a three-goal lead.

Senior Samantha Jacobson (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) has overcome great adversity so far this season while battling injuries, but saw her hard work pay off on Wednesday with her first career goal in her fourth year with the program. She scored in the second minute of action by tipping in an initial shot by Micaela Beaty (Drexel Hill, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast), who was credited with the assist.

Senior goalkeeper Rachael Sanders (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg (Limestone)) notched her first win of the season. She had three saves and allowed the lone goal of the game by Mercy off of a corner.

The Golden Bears return home this Saturday, Oct. 4, for a conference matchup with Mercyhurst University beginning at 1 p.m. at University Field. KU dropped a 4-1 decision early last season to MU before taking down the Lakers 5-4 a couple weeks later.
