READING, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team earned a pair of victories on Saturday as it remains in 10th place after the second day of the Kutztown Invitational, hosted at Hiester Lanes.
The Golden Bears (46-26) opened the day with one of their best wins of the season. They defeated fifth-ranked Stephen F. Austin 989-947. Unfortunately, it was followed by four setbacks for Kutztown to 14th-ranked Valparaiso, North Carolina A&T, second-ranked Maryland Eastern Shore, and Norfolk State. Kutztown capped the day with a win over 15th-ranked Delaware State.
Also on Saturday, Kutztown honored its three seniors for their careers in the Maroon and Gold. Among them were
Brooke Bower (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff),
Deanna DiRado (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem), and
Rebecca Velazquez (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland).
Bower held the top average on the team in her six games on Saturday at 201. Sophomore
Lauren Stamm (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) was second at 196.8, followed by Velazquez at 193.8 and DiRado at 188.3.
Sunday will feature a bracket-style best-of-seven matchup on the third and final day of the tournament. Kutztown will take on Saint Francis (PA) at 8:30 a.m.
