ERIE, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team came up short in both of Saturday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matches hosted by Gannon University, dropping a heart-breaking five-set match to Edinboro before falling to Gannon in straight sets.

Although set-back from Saturday's defeats, Kutztown (8-7, 2-2 PSAC) escapes this weekend's PSAC West division matchups with a 2-2 record. KU secured two huge victories over Slippery Rock (3-2) and Mercyhurst (3-1) on Friday.

KU vs. Edinboro

It took five sets and almost two hours before Edinboro (11-5, 4-0 PSAC) finally brought down the surging Golden Bears.

Junior Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) was the bright spot for the KU squad in the defeat. Braga led the team in kills for the first time this season, putting away 12 balls. Committing only two errors, Braga finished with an attack percentage of .333. She also grabbed 12 digs and a block for the defense.

Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) played big at the net, leading the team with five blocks and adding 10 kills. Liama Goodrich (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) recorded eight kills and two blocks on the KU front line.

Freshman Morgynn McKenzie (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) improved on the career day she posted Friday against Mercyhurst, recording a new personal-high with 21 digs. Setter Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) assisted 33 times and added six digs.

After dropping the first set 25-19, KU committed only three errors in the second, tying the match 1-1 with a 25-21 second set victory.

The third set was a fight for momentum as both squads fought to build an extensive lead. With a 15-14 lead, KU was finally able to break away and rattled off five quick points, ultimately grabbing the match lead with a 25-18 third-set victory.

Edinboro went on the offensive in the fourth, attacking 40 times and putting away 16 kills. The strong attack was enough for the Fighting Scots to win the set 25-19 and tie the match at two sets apiece.

The determining fifth set was just not meant to be for the Maroon and Gold, as Edinboro fired off three quick points to force a KU timeout. The strategy deemed ineffective as KU fell behind 9-1. The Scots finished out the last few points to take the fifth set 15-7 and the match.

KU vs. Gannon

Following the tough loss to Edinboro, Kutztown had to immediately get back on its feet to take on a powerful Gannon (9-4, 4-0 PSAC) squad on its home court.

The Gannon attack was consistently too strong, recording 44 kills and only nine errors in three sets compared to 19 kills and 18 errors for the Golden Bears.

After a 25-14 loss in the first set, Kutztown gave the Lady Knights a battle in the second, forcing six tie scores and three lead changes, eventually falling 25-18. Gannon secured the match in the third with a 25-12 set win.

Goodrich led the Golden Bears with seven kills and one block. Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) was second on KU with six kills. Conti led the team with nine digs, while adding all 17 assists.

Kutztown has the week off before a nine-game home-stretch, opening against Lock Haven Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. from Keystone Arena.
