WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The 29th-ranked Kutztown University baseball team played 22 combined innings on Saturday as it dropped a pair of extra-inning games to West Chester University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader at Serpico Stadium. Kutztown fell 7-6 in 14 innings in game one, and 4-3 in eight innings in game two.

The 14-inning affair is the longest game for Kutztown since taking Barton College to 15 innings in the opening series of the 2011 season. It is the longest PSAC game for Kutztown dating back through the 1999 season.

The Golden Bears (31-14, 15-9 PSAC East) wrapped up their conference slate on Saturday and will be the No. 2 seed in the PSAC tournament next week. It will face the No. 3 seed in the West, Mercyhurst (30-18, 15-9 PSAC West), on Wednesday, May 8 at 9:30 a.m. at Point Stadium in Johnstown, Pa.

In the game one marathon, Kutztown's 53 team at-bats and leadoff hitter Brandon Martinez (Lansdale, PA/North Penn)'s eight individual at-bats are the most for the club since the 2011 game against Barton, and also the most in a PSAC game dating back through the 1999 season.

In game one, Kutztown overcame a four-run deficit to tie the game at 6-6 in the seventh inning. It used six pitchers in the setback including three in extra innings. Only three of the six runs in the first seven innings were earned.

Senior Jordan Garcia (Mount Carmel, PA/Fleetwood) was the most effective pitcher for KU in the opener with 3.2 scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and had three strikeouts. J.R. Seader (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway/ Maryland-Baltimore County) and Matt Swarmer (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) also pitched scoreless innings in relief.

Kutztown loaded the bases with two walks and a single by John Dockins (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson (Frederick CC)) in the 11th inning, but was unable to cross a run with an inning-ending double play.

In the 14th, West Chester's Justin Lamborn reached base with a one-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Billy Felo (Dauphin, PA/Central Dauphin/Chesapeake College). Lamborn advanced to third on a fielding error by Dockins, and scored the game-winning run on an RBI single by Jordan Wlodarczyk.

Wlodarczyk led the Golden Rams with a 4-for-6 performance at the plate. Pitcher Kyle Weary picked up the win with 9.2 innings pitched in relief. He allowed four hits and six walks with no earned runs.

In game two, Kutztown took a 2-0 lead in the second on a two-run double from Dockins down the left field line. West Chester retook the lead with three unanswered runs through six innings.

Senior catcher Matt Albaugh (Hatfield, PA/North Penn) tied the game in the seventh with a one-out single to score Travis Kreitz (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown), who was hit by a pitch and stole second to get into scoring position.

In the bottom of the eighth, West Chester's Rob Spekhardt was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch with one out. After a strikeout, Jack Provine hit the game-winning double to earn the victory and send West Chester to the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the East.

Dockins and Albaugh each had multi-hit games for the Golden Bears in the nightcap.
