KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 13th-ranked Kutztown University baseball team travels to Bloomsburg University on Saturday, April 6 for the second half of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: After outslugging Adelphi University, 16-10, in a non-conference game Wednesday, the Golden Bears continued to thrive offensively with a home sweep over the Huskies yesterday. In Game 1, KU overcame a six-run deficit to win, 11-10. Sophomore third baseman
Ricky Gorrell (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) hit his second walk-off RBI single in as many weeks. In Game 2, the Maroon and Gold plated eight runs in the third inning en route to an 11-4 win, giving the Golden Bears a 7-0 home mark. With two yesterday, KU now has 11 come-from-behind wins this year.
O-WHAT A WONDERFUL OFFENSE: In three games this week, Kutztown so far scored 38 runs. This marks the season-high runs over a three-game stretch, surpassing the 36 scored March 19 and 20 against Shaw and Barton, respectively. In fact, KU's six games with 10+ runs scored all came in these two stretches. The Golden Bears tallied 4+ runs in three frames against Adelphi, as well as once in each game against Bloom (6-R B4, 5-R B6, 4-R B8 v. Adelphi; 5-R B3 G1, 8-R B3 G2 v. Bloom).
THESE BEARS ARE GOLDEN: With yesterday's sweep, the Golden Bears now won 14 of their last 15 games. This includes an 11-game winning streak from March 19 to March 30, which marks the school's best streak is the school's best since 2009, when the Golden Bears also won 11 consecutive. After three wins against Shippensburg, the Golden Bears vaulted from unranked to 13th in this week's Collegiate Baseball National Poll. KU ranks second in the NCBWA Atlantic Region polls.
