Box Score

Kutztown 8, Philadelphia 3 (HTML Box Score)

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior Kyle Stoudt (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) stepped up and hit a pinch-hit, bases loaded triple in the seventh inning to give the 29th-ranked Kutztown University baseball team its first lead of the game as it held on for an 8-3 non-conference win over Philadelphia University on Tuesday afternoon at North Campus Field.

The Golden Bears (30-11) were trailing the Rams (19-26-1) 3-1 going into the bottom half of the seventh inning. Brandon Hickey (Mountville, PA/Hempfield) dropped a well-placed bunt in front of the catcher to reach base to open the inning. Todd Rubendall (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) hit a single to centerfield and John Dockins (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson (Frederick CC)) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.

Stoudt came up for the first time on Tuesday in a pinch-hit situation. On the first pitch off a new pitcher, he drove a bases clearing triple to the gap in left center field to give Kutztown a 4-3 lead, its first lead of the game. He scored during the next at-bat on a wild pitch.

Kutztown scored three insurance runs in the eighth inning to give it an 8-3 lead. Rubendall beat out an infield bunt single for an RBI, as Stoudt and Carson Baker (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman (Lackawanna)) also had RBI hits in the inning. Like Stoudt's game-winning triple, Baker's RBI hit was a pinch-hit.

With the win, Kutztown wins its 30th game for the ninth time in the last 10 years. It is also the first time this season the Golden Bears have won when trailing after five innings.

Eight pitchers were used for the Golden Bears on Tuesday. Jason Henderson (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) and J.R. Seader (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway/ Maryland-Baltimore County) combined to keep the Rams scoreless through the first three innings. James Rossi (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) picked up the win as he pitched the top half of the seventh inning and allowed an unearned run.

Four Golden Bears had multi-hit games. Along with Hickey, Stoudt, and Rubendall, leadoff hitter Brandon Martinez (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) had two hits for KU.

Hunter Greenwood led the Rams at the plate with a 2-for-4 game with two RBI. TJ Burgmann also had an RBI for Philadelphia.

The Golden Bears return to action and close out their regular season schedule on Friday, May 3 when they host West Chester University at North Campus Field beginning at 1 p.m.
