Baseball Hosts Adelphi on Wednesday in Non-Conference Battle

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 13th-ranked Kutztown University baseball team gets its first chance of the season to compete as a nationally-ranked team when it hosts Adelphi University on Wednesday, April 3 at North Campus Field for a single, nine-inning game beginning at 3 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: KU won three of four games against Shippensburg last Friday and Saturday. The Golden Bears won both games at North Campus Field and split the two at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg. Friday, Carson Baker (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman (Lackawanna)) hit the go-ahead RBI in the fifth inning of a 4-3 Game 1 win. Ricky Gorrell (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) hit a walk-off RBI single to cap a 6-5 Game 2 win. Saturday, three, two-out RBI keyed a 7-3 Game 1 win, but the Golden Bears' 11-game winning streak ended with an 8-2 loss in Game 2. As a result of the wins, KU shot up to 13th in the Collegiate Baseball National Poll after not being ranked last week.

THESE BEARS ARE GOLDEN: Before losing to Ship, KU put together an impressive 11-game winning streak. The streak is the school's best since 2009, when the Golden Bears won 11 consecutive from March 13 to April 4. At the time, they improved to 17-4. This marks the best 21-game start since 2007, when they went 44-3 in the regular season and built winning streaks of 13 and 16 games.

ARMED TO WIN: Pitching leads the way for the Maroon and Gold so far. The Golden Bears held opponents to three runs or fewer 13 times, including eight during the 11-game winning streak. Among starters, junior lefty Colin Holmes (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) tops the rotation with a 2-0 record, 3.00 ERA (6 ER/18 IP) and a .224 batting average allowed. In the bullpen, sophomore righty Connor Wing (West Chester, PA/Unionville) and freshman righty Matt Swarmer (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) combine for a 0.47 ERA (1 ER/19.2 IP), 17 K and a .159 BAA. Six other relievers allowed one run or fewer.
