KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's tennis team heads into the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Semifinals Friday, April 19 at Indiana (Pa.) University looking to continue to make KU history after earning the PSAC Eastern Divisional Title for the first time.

The Golden Bears (9-7, 6-0 PSAC East) are the No. 1 seed in the tournament, and will face the No. 2 seed of the Western Division, IUP at their home courts, beginning at 10 a.m.

The Golden Bears and the Crimson Hawks have not yet faced off this season. Last year, KU fell to IUP 0-9 in regular season play.

Head coach Suresh Ramamurthi has taken the Golden Bears as high as finishing second in the PSAC during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, but KU has not yet ranked in the PSAC championships.

The Golden Bears have looked to their seniors Ridhima Borooah (Guwahati-Assam, India/Modern School; Barakhamba Road; New Delhi) and Rachel Grula (Drums, PA/Hazleton Area) as leaders on the court this season.

At No. 1 singles this season, Borooah has only fell in three of her 14 completed matches, and has shut out her opponents in 10 sets. She is also 5-0 in the PSAC. Borooah and doubles partner Hannah Pipkin (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) reached a season-high five-match winning streak, and finished 6-0 in the PSAC.

Grula has been most recently named the PSAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week and has won eight of her 13 completed matches this season, with two shutout sets in singles play, and two shutout matches in doubles. Grula and doubles partner Tori Zander (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) shared the season-high five-match winning streak as well, and finished 5-1 in the PSAC.

The championship match will be played on Saturday, April 20 at 9 a.m. with the consolation match following at 1 p.m.

Looking ahead to Saturday's potential competition, Kutztown defeated West Chester University in a close match 5-4, but has not yet faced California (Pa.) University this season due to cancellations.
